Do you ever consume soft drinks or baked goods? These products often contain artificial sweeteners, which research suggests may be linked to cancer.

Study Summary

A recent and large study found that participants who consumed greater amounts of artificial sweetener such as aspartame and acesulfame-K, had an increased risk for cancer.

Although there were several limits to the study including self-reported diet intake, the data is suggestive that artificial sweetener consumption is not beneficial for health.

Since the 1940’s research has linked the consumption of artificial sweeteners to cancer in mice. This new research has suggested similar health concern for humans.

More research is needed to determine the effects of artificial sweeteners on disease outcomes like cancer. For preventive measure, limit or avoid artificial sweeteners.
