Did you know that a higher coffee consumption (up to 5 cups) may contribute to greater health?

Study Summary

Systematic reviews suggest that higher coffee consumption decreases the risk for Alzheimer’s.

Similarly, systematic reviews also indicate that coffee consumption may contribute to a lowered risk for type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Lastly, research also suggests that higher coffee consumption may decrease the risk for prostate cancer, as well as oral, pharynx, liver, colon, prostate, endometrial cancer and melanoma. However, coffee consumption may increase the risk for lung cancer.

The Hearty Take

Coffee may exert these benefits through thermogenic and antioxidative effects, or via combating inflammation. It may also modulate pathways, and impact the microbiome. However, just because research suggests that coffee consumption is beneficial, it may not be beneficial for everyone. Check your genetics to see how you metabolize caffeine and reach out to your doctor to know if it is right for you!
